The documenting of this building project is a story about transformation.
The site is always moving, spaces and objects are continually being constructed and dismantled both actions revealing something new, this is what I am drawn to on site, the scaffold that must trace around the structure it intends to demolish or the scarring left on walls when long standing items are removed.
There is a certain clarity or sense of completion in these forms that the site briefly rests on, the drawings and photographs collected are representations of these moments, they arrest the ongoing story, holding it at that point. At the end of the process the story of the completed building will be the story of all the completed moments that surrounded it.
In contrast to the drawing made from the vantage point above the site, being able to access the site, to physically touch and experience the works being carried out has provoked quite a diverse range of approaches in recording what I encounter. I was struck by the amount of drawing present on site, the trails left on the site floor by vehicles and the dragging of objects, the criss cross pattern of lines cut into the carpenters bench. I have used photograms, rubbings and relief prints in order to take direct physical readings of these forms that exist so fleetingly on the surfaces of the site.
All of the material I collect goes into an archive that unfolds chronologically, it is the assembling of a diverse range of fragments that articulate my encounter with a transforming landscape.
